a remote job by Sportech LLC

Job Description

posted 1 month ago via stackoverflow.com

Imperfect Produce is on a mission to end food waste in the world and to build a better food system for everyone. Tens of thousands of Americans agree and Imperfect’s business is on a fast growth trajectory as a result. Adapting how we engineer through this growth is essential to our success. The Head of Engineering will be responsible for developing and mentoring a team of distributed engineers who design, develop, deliver, and maintain Imperfect’s e-commerce and technology platform. (The position can be based at our headquarters in San Francisco or can be remote.) We are believers that good leaders intimately understand the challenges of their employees; as such, we expect you to stay active in programming (~20% of your time) as part of this role. You understand Agile principles and processes and their role in a start-up environment. You are a strong communicator and practice open and transparent management

Ours is a team of about 10 (and growing) seasoned professionals who are highly productive and builds things iteratively because we believe that the right answer comes from a mix of design and discovery.  To that end, we’re neither dogmatic nor trend-seeking — we’re simply out to build the best product for customers possible. Sometimes that calls for “boring” tech, and sometimes that calls for “bleeding edge” tech. Your addition to our team will make all of this more delightful.

Responsibilities

    • Build, lead, and scale a high-quality engineering team, and demonstrate a passion to recruit, mentor and develop top talent
    • Architect large web-scale systems and manage the full cycle including development, implementation, and maintenance
    • Closely collaborate with Product Management to develop and drive the product engineering roadmap, and document and report progress against stated goals
    • Develop processes for experimentation where engineers are empowered to rapidly test and deploy their ideas, and champion a culture of measurement, accountability, and quality
    • Forward plan for rapid growth in subscribers, order volume, average order value, grocery product SKU expansion, and geographic expansion into new markets
    • Build increasingly data-centric products (AI/ML) and Data Engineering/Data Science capacity and expertise in the team
    • Advise the engineering team and stakeholders throughout the company on the evaluation and selection of open source and third-party tools and platforms to increase our development efficiency and improve our technology and product platforms

Skills and Qualifications:

    • 4+ years engineering management experience, ideally in a rapid-growth consumer start-up environment
    • An additional 6+ years software engineering experience in backend or full stack development, including experience with AWS, Docker, CircleCI, Node.js, React/Redux, F#, .NET, Python, Javascript, RabbitMQ, Kinesis/Lambda, Postgres, Snowflake, Segment or comparable technologies
    • Proven, demonstrable success in delivering product in a fast moving agile/scrum development environment
    • BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

About You:

    • Experience working with managing remote teams
    • Natural ability to successfully collaborate, especially with other teams to meet their needs (Product Management, Warehouse & Delivery Operations, Marketing, Customer Care, Supply, etc.)
    • A passion for the Imperfect mission to end food waste in the world and build a better food system for everyone

Details of the Position:

    • Full time, exempt position reporting to the CIO
    • Based out of our sweet warehouse-turned-office in San Francisco (Bayview)
    • Salary and employee stock options commensurate with experience
    • Competitive benefits package including health care, paid vacation, 401k, and a weekly Imperfect box!

Physical Requirements:

    • Sedentary work; predominately involving sitting most of the time
    • Standing desk and/or other ergonomic accommodation is available upon request
    • Walking, climbing stairs, and standing are required only occasionally
    • Regular work with computers, including computers, keyboards, mouses and screens
    • Regular use of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets also required
